art gallery, kind of grey
two old men discussing monet
in hushed baritone
i lock eyes with someone in uniform
who tells me
my clothes look like some of the paintings
i suddenly regret
that i approached only to ask about
the way out

smith's song
03:04
|
|||
drains in the drought are a great place to play
except if you expect flooding rains
and on saturday we did
so your nephews came round to mine
and we showed them a nicely sized e-bike
which they liked quite a bit
then we went around to smith's alternative and saw the show
we caught four or five acts that we love and personally know
pete and nigel did impressions of you
bambi gave us quite the view
nelly sang as sweet as honey
and since i had no money left
you paid my entre fee
then, at the end of the night
we walked to your place sleepily
a bushwalk in the sunshine is a fine time indeed
except when you expect sweltering heat
and these days we do
so we stay in in front of the fan
and watch our tv shows and make a plan
to climb when it cools
then we go around to smith's alternative and have a beer
our mates are always there or at the very least they're very near
paul and ellie sitting out the front
joel playing the flute
meg and aki up behind the bar
and if i have some money darlin
i'll buy you your beer
and at the end of the day
we'll have a lovely time i'd say!

to bear and grin

i'm not one to bear and grin
i like my tears and beer and gin
i listen to my heart and speak my mind
comfortably, in good company
i spend my evenings drunkenly
i never leave a stone unturned
or a shoulder dry
cos i'm tender all the time
oh the hours were so sweet
in the shower in the street
i miss you everywhere i go or stay
but i never seem to see you around
i wonder what you're up to now
i guess it's not my business anyway
but i hope you're doin fine
sorry to pull the rug out from under you
some things have been swept under it
i said "someday, i want to marry you"
it's true
i did
but i don't want to settle down
or settle down
i'm brash and i'm loud and i'm proud
i'll be strong just like a woman
i'll be gentle like a man
i'll be tender like i always am
but mostly, i'll be mine

bird song
02:32
|

the baby finch is little bigger than a bug
she flies in front of me alongside her mama
and they look real sweet
and it makes me think of my mama too
now i wonder if there's somethin that she'd like to do
sometimes i meet her and we go out for lunch
sometimes i visit when i'm crying for a hug
and she holds me tight
and she says "hey chook, it will be alright"
when she says it, i believe her too
oh mama, i'm so proud of you
the cockatoo is little different than a biker
3 fly out of a tree and scare the life outta me
then were all gliding down the road
and that's an e-bike gang, those birds with us two in tow
my darlin's gorgeous as a red rosella
together we're a pair of pink galahs
you should see the way he lifts the room with his guitar
his sweet voice, his story tellin eyes; his many charms
oh darlin, i'm so glad to know ya
now the bike path twists around the dickson shops
and i'm learning not to hold up traffic
i'm learning to read the patterns
so i don't go around causing havoc
the mama finch is little bigger than her bub
she's watchin me while i hang my washin up
and it makes me feel like i'm in a watercolour scene
these days are feelin better than i ever could've even dreamed
